Happy and Healthy New Years greetings to you all from the 22 greyhounds in our branch kennels and the kennel team.
Another year has rolled around for us all and it's time to look forward to 2023.
The kennel team now are Terry, Kirsty, Jo and Lynn who work a 4-week rolling rota. They have support from 2 bank staff volunteers as required.
We continue to use the 2 established vets for neutering, these being Cavan and Melbourne practises.
Our fantastic working relationship with Monmore Green stadium continues and we receive greyhounds from their trainers in alphabetical order. This has been the routine for many years.
The greyhounds were lucky to get lots of donated Turkey and Chicken over the festive period, together with 322 tins of 'festive fish' We use these after neutering operations when a lighter diet is required
Donations of soft toys, unwanted Christmas gifts and the usual bedding and towels remain a necessity.
The major change for the branch this year is the end of branch meetings as we know them. Back in the day they were known as committee meeting which changed to branch meetings. These are no longer possible following a notification from the National Greyhound Support centre.
We are going regroup and focus on small groups of volunteers with interests in certain areas.
The first of these will be a meeting of the kennel team next week to look at ways we can improve become more proactive.
Following on there will be meetings for Awareness Events, Care Home visits and fund raising. These will be open to all interested registered volunteers, to plan for the year ahead. More details to follow.
We welcome homed greyhounds to come and use our field for a run, together with nail clipping for a donation in the collection pot. This is by half hour appointments and can be booked by a phone call to the kennels on 01902 291080.
We also have 10 holiday boarding kennel spaces for greyhounds. These are in a separate kennel block and all dogs need to be fully vaccinated. The charge is £15 a night for a single kennel and £25 for a double with 2 hounds.
We are currently 'checking in' with all registered volunteers to establish if they are able to continue their support this year. They are the life blood of our work and we are always looking to increase this data base. If anyone reading our news would like to join please contact us.
Finally, we lost our social media Facebook page, and therefore lots of followers. If you read our posts ( including on Twitter) please share to your personal followers. Every little helps!
