It's been a while since there was news from the branch and kennels, so here it is!
As we move through Covid restrictions in our day-to-day life, we are still following guidelines form our head office at the kennels.
We are only welcoming visitors by half hour appointments and keep the required record of their attendance. Masks are still worn in enclosed spaces with members of the public for now but are not required in the kennels or outside spaces.
Nail clipping and galloping in the field is now available every day, again by an appointment system and this is working very well. Please ring the kennels on 01902 291080.
The field and small paddock is looking good after last year's major maintenance and drainage work. The local farmer is keeping it cut and we are enjoying seeing the hounds rush around on a safe surface.
Homing has continued throughout using 'virtual' home checking and photographic evidence of home, gardens, etc.
We continue to work through the trainer list from Monmore stadium and the only problem is securing regular vet spaces for neutering.
Since the start of the year, we have taken several hounds from Ireland via head office. This has helped immensely as the dogs come along good to go! Neutered, vaccinated, worm etc and have a pet passport.
Our relationship with the track remains good and they share pictures of the hounds looking for a family. On a Friday they feature a 'Dog of the Week' in the programme.
Volunteers in the main, have remained loyal to the charity and have returned to support the kennels on a day to day basis.
However, there are days when we have few or none. If you, any friends or family members may wish to consider helping please ring the kennels for further details. However, due to insurance requirements, all volunteers under the age of 18 years must be always accompanied by a parent or guardian.
As restrictions lift, hopefully we can once again start to meet the public on awareness events and show them what great pets greyhounds make. Please watch the events page of the website for updates and if you would like to join the volunteers, again please contact the kennels.
We have been lucky to continue to receive donated supplies of dog food and treats which are very welcome. Our Festive Fish is still giving the kennel dogs a change of diet once a week. We are now about halfway through the supplies, so would welcome donations of tinned fish in oil or tomato sauce.
Also, if you have or get offers of bedding and towels, we can always make good use of them.
There is rebuilding of the cottage going on at the kennel site at present and regular visitors will have noticed the skips, deliveries of bricks and other building material. The tones of a number of men singing along to their radios is a different kind of daily entertainment for the hounds, who occasionally like to join in!!!
That is all for now folks till the next time……
