Description

From Rory's previous short term foster family..

Rory has been an absolute pleasure to have as part of our family over the last few weeks. He has lived alongside myself, my partner, my five year old daughter and two other greyhounds in the house. He was initially a bit nervous and withdrawn, spending the first few days either in the crate or at the side of the table, however after a few days he settled in and felt comfortable enough to jump up on the sofa for a cuddle, where he loved having belly rubs off us. He had previously lived in a house before coming to us and was well toilet trained, pacing by the door when he needed to go outside so we were able to let him out. He got on superbly with our other hounds, although due to Rory's gentle and placid nature, there were times when our dogs could be quite pushy (stealing his food was a particular issue, so he had to be fed away from them) so it may be worth just keeping an eye on any other dogs in the home to make sure Rory isn't being left out or picked on. Rory also needs his own space, as he found the other two dogs quite boisterous and this could make him nervous at times when they were playing. With us, he liked to have some quiet time under the table in the living room or behind the exercise bike when things were too hectic. Rory walks perfectly on the lead and isn't affected by other dogs or small animals that cross his path, and is impeccably behaved. Rory allows you to eat meals in peace and won't bother you unless you offer him food. He does crave security and likes to be around humans- he coped well when we left him in the house alone for short periods of time, but we found he did have a tenancy to 'shadow' us, especially at first, and if he didn't know where we were in the house he would whine for a short period of time. This was evident particularly at night when we went to bed, as he liked to follow us and sleep outside the bedroom door. This was initially accompanied by him whining, although once he knew we were still there in the morning this stopped. He is a very quiet and calm dog, but he does bark when excited- almost always when he thinks he's going for a walk! Rory is a wonderful, good natured dog who we would have loved to keep as part of the family, but once we return to work we cannot give Rory the time and attention he deserves. We truly hope Rory finds his forever home soon- he will make his new family extremely happy and deserves so much love!
